Remembering them today

53 years ago today a terrible crime was committed by JRM. Four innocent lives were taken in a most brutal way. All for selfish reasons. First in a rage, and then in a calculated plan to rid himself of responsibilities that inhibited his freedom and lifestyle. Colette only wanted to be a good wife and mother. Kimberly was the same age as me and should have grown up and experienced all the things I have since 1970. Kristen too. And the little boy, also had a life to live. He was a real person. I wonder if Colette had given him a name? No name is ever mentioned for him, which is a shame. He should have had a name.

Re: Remembering them today

I am so glad that the children's last name was changed to Steveson.  (see second photo underneath the first one)

Re: Remembering them today

Thanks OWC for posting the photo. I got out FV today and noticed that the funeral in Fort Bragg was 21 Feb, with JRM attending, then returning to the hospital. They were buried in Long Island on 23 Feb.  JRM did not travel to NY, but remained in Womack hospital for 9 days, until 26 Feb, when he moved to a BOQ room.
It seems that Freddy and Mildred took charge of the burial and arranged for it to be in the Stevenson family plot.
My question is, did JRM ever visit the graves in Long Island during the 9 years he was free?   He would have had many opportunities as the cemetary was not too far from NYC and even closer to his extended family in Long Island, who he must have visited occasionally during the 1970's.
I know not everyone visits Graves, so it doesn't prove he is guilty if he never visited.
But I suspect that he never did. Not even once.
He had moved on, and was not looking back.
There is no way he took the 2 or 3 hours required to go out of his way and visit those Graves. He was content to leave them alone.
If anyone has any info on this or an opinion, I would like to hear it.

Re: Remembering them today

Also from FV,  during the first week of March, JRM had taken a 3 day trip to Myrtle Beach SC with his mother. It was suggested by his CO to help him heal. Upon returning to Fort Bragg, he wrote a letter to the Kassabs on March 6th.

Dear Freddy and Mildred,
Apparently it was not just a bad dream - the magnitude of our loss is something I'm still trying to comprehend.
I know this won't help you in your grief, but I want you to know that I loved Colette more than anything in the world.  I know she was happy as long as we were together, and I  will never be the same person without her.
Although my family is gone, it helps me just a little to remember that Colette and Kim and Kristi and I had as much happiness in our short years together as most families have in a lifetime. Colette truly loved you both and would want you to remember the happier times.
Love,
Jeff

Re: Remembering them today

I don't know this to be 100% correct, but I don't believe cm ever visited the graves.  More disturbing is he never send flowers as I understand it.  I have been to their graves 3 times, it is very difficult and strange to and at a grave where a individual was murdered. Yes, it is difficult to visit graves, but if you loved someone, you go visit them.  That is my own personal experience.

Re: Remembering them today

Hi to all, I remember reading on one of the Topics that there would be news about cm filing a new appeal.  I guess nothing ever happened and he is going to rot in prison till his last breath, good for him.  But I miss the conversations on this board.

Re: Remembering them today

Tim2020 - I don't think he is currently working on any appeals, but if he is, there are members of this group who will let us know.
The quiet may mean he has accepted his fate, but that is unlikely.
Brian Murtagh predicted that he would continue trying to get out as long as he lived. That he would never just quietly do his time.
He has tried many things over the years and nothing has worked, because his guilt is very clear and the crime was monstrous.
His best hope might be a health claim that he is dying, but that is also a long shot.
Most people with his sentence are transferred to a prison hospital if they are truly sick. And most large prisons have an infirmary where he would live out his last days. Unless he dies suddenly while in general population.

Re: Remembering them today

Last I heard was back in October of 2022. Ted Landreth is supposed to be working on another.

documentary about Jeffrey MacDonald and how he is innocent.  It would appear that he must be

struggling. Supposedly this new documentary is going to set an innocent man free!  I wonder why

anyone would even be interested.

Re: Remembering them today

The  . . .um . . . final nail in the coffin for MacDonald was the ruling by the Fourth Circuit Court. The Fourth Circuit clearly addressed every issue, and stated that MacDonald had no basis for a new trial or another appeal. They basically told MacDonald go away and leave us (the Courts) alone. That ended his long sojourn through the Court system.

MacDonald’s only hope for ever leaving prison alive, and it is a razor-thin hope, is to go before the Parole Board, admit his guilt, profess his deep regret and remorse, and explain how he’s changed. Even if he did that it’s doubtful the Parole Board would rule in his favor. The crime was too heinous, his abuse of the legal system too obvious, and his time spent trying to play an innocent martyr too long. It’s also very doubtful, that at this point he could bring himself to accept the role of a family annihilator.

No documentary, book, movie, blog, etc., is going to get him released. HE IS NOT INNOCENT. He received a fair hearing and an unprecedented number of opportunities to be reheard. The evidence of his guilt is too voluminous and strong. Only someone who is stupid, or has a vested interest (Money? Fame?) would consider otherwise. Jeffery R. MacDonald brutally murdered his pregnant wife Colette and two precious little daughters, Kimberley and Kristen. The murder of Kristen was premeditated and ice-cold for the purpose of making it appear there were intruders and giving MacDonald the appearance of innocence. And as he coldly attacked and brutally murdered two year old  little Kristen, she tried to defend herself, and a battered and broken Colette made a great and valiant effort to save her child. This final murder was the worst and truly makes MacDonald a monster. Nothing, no documentary, book, movie, blog, etc, can change that, and that is why he will never walk out of prison.

Re: Remembering them today

100% agree, Texas Poet!  Well stated.  I wonder if anybody on this board followed the Murtaugh trial, similar in some ways.  The video w/ Murtaugh's voice is similar to the bloody foot print in the cm's case, IMHO.  Also drug use, I always believed cm was using speed that was removed from the market because it was causing people to be violent. And that is what caused the rage.
